Our First Trip to Segovia

We made our first trip to Segovia in our car. This is an unbelievable place, including the castle at Alcazar, museums and places to shop for Becky Earl and Connie and all you other women. It was cold but we had a great day. That aqueduct was built in the first and second century and it was in use for almost 2,000 years. No mortar. Everyone that comes here will want to see this place. We now know how to get there. Getting back to the house is still a challenge. Do you like my new hat? It is warm. That is all I care about. We are really liked this place. This is the place where you eat the suckling pig.

Chinese Food

We took the car out to see if we could find our way back home. The place where the Catholic Kings of Spain are buried is called Escorial and it is about an hour from Madrid. A fantastic drive, great monastary there, beautiful little city and yes, Chinese Food. This is about our first meal outside the MTC, but I was hungry for Chinese and found a good place. Everyone we take out to Escorial will probably have to try this place. We really liked it.

Italians and Spaniards

Our three missionaries from Italy going to Italy and our 2 americans and l El Salvadorian going to Spain missions. We went to the temple today again and I did the veil in Italian and Spanish and English. We went a second session with the teachers too. Great day. This temple is off the charts in beauty. Next week Daniel is going to take me up into the tower of the temple (where our buddy Moroni is hanging out) to get some pictures from there. All this and ice cream bars on Sunday too. Purpari and Catalano are from big families and have been members all their lives pretty much. Duque was converted 5 years ago but baptized 2 years ago (he called the elder that taught him from Idaho and had him fly over to Rome to baptize him) Sis. Smith is the granddaughter of Daniel Ludlow, one of my heros. Sis Montes de Oca's parents are in Japan but just moved from 2 blocks from where our new house in Gilbert is located. Sis Ramirez waited in El Salvadore for 7 months for her visa. Then was given 2 days to get ready to fly to Madrid. She arrived without her luggage, has been here two weeks and now has to fly to London for 3 days to work on the visa and then she will be back on Monday and in her mission in Malaga by Thursday. Crazy stuff here.

Splatt!!!!

This started out like any other Saturday. We gave our l hour devotional this morning and went withthe missionaries to the park to street contact. Mom and I went on a little further, took a couple of pictures and went down to El Corte Ingles, a huge commercial center. As we were walking, Connie fell down and cracked her eye socket on the cement. She just layed there. She was out. I saw a little blood by her head and kind of panicked. She woke up but could not get up for awhile. A lady came by and gave us some tissues. Finaly she was able to get up and we rested a little, went to a medical station in the mall and then worked our way back home. She is resting, ok but doing fine. She is going to be fine. The middle picture is the blood she left on the pavement. She is a trooper.

Global Warming

We are more convinced than ever that we indeed have global warming. Otherwise, how you account for snow in Madrid, which occurs every 10 years or so, coming every week or so now. Unbelievable. The people here do not know how to drive or get around in the snow. We took our three Italians to the temple for their endowments this morning. Now we are doing preparation day and are out to see the city (preparation in that we are preparing for you to come over here and we will have seen something to show you). Anyway, SNOW in Madrid.

Elder Duque

We just got three missionaries from Italy. Elder Duque is 26, born in the Phillippines but having lived in Rome for 10 years (and l year in Seattle). He is a dynamic young missionary. This morning Connie opened up the blogs and saw one from Clark Hatch (Dan and Callie Hatch's son serving in Rome). She just happened to open it up as she had a couple of minutes and there she found this second picture of Elder Hatch with a picture of Duque and telling in his blog how they had just sent off a missionary to the Madrid MTC. Small world. We have 3 sisters also that are going to Spain missions (one is from San Salvadore and just got here last night). She has been waiting l year for her visa. We took her when we could get her. We are using 3 languages right now to teach the 6 missionaries. Very intimate but very cool. Pres. Moore (Madrid Temple) (CES from Bountiful) spoke tonight at our fireside and they were really good. His son baptized the Rebaza family in Arequipa Peru (that's right, our Bishop Armando Rebaza)

My view

For the next two years this is the view out our window. Who is the dude with the trumpet? The Church does everything the right way. First class. We brought in 3 new missionaries from Italy and after 3 weeks they will go back to Italy. Two speak English and they are really good people. We brought in an RM from Italy to teach them. He is my new friend from Naples.
