Chimbote was great. I found 5 more children there. All the fuss about the smell in Chimbote. All lies. Great and beautiful fishing city. Willy Uceda was one of two brothers in the mission. This is him with his wife. Then we have Wilfredo Alvarado with his son. In the top picture I have Patricio Ipanaque, Froilan Periche and Enrique Gutierrez. Gutierrez was the first peruvian missionary assigned to the mission and was later an assistant. Gutierrez married Ipanaque's sister.

Happiness shows I think.
Doug Amazing to read your blog, you are doing such an amazing work for all these people that really need it, you are the answers to their prayers.
We posted a coment way back on earthquake relief. Not sure if you saw it or not. We are spending the weekend in Provo with Fred and RoseMary Nelson who just returned from serving as Humanitarian Missionaries in Peru. Also Dr. Jaimie Joo and his wife who fly in this morning from Lima. Not sure if you know them. They are the current Humanitarian Missionaries. We look at your sight a lot, as we come to Peru frequently as Short Term Specialist Missionaries.
It's been so fun reading and keeping up with all that you've been doing.
I don't know though---I'm not quite convinced you guys are on a mission. Looks like you are having a little too much fun :)
Hey Doug,
I guess I missed out on the whole story about you guys ending up in Peru. What happened there? And I was wondering if you could give me and update on how the Church is doing in Venezuela. Thanks.
Yay for cute pictures! Thanks for the update. You didn't post for awhile so I wondered what was up...turns out you were traveling. Mom, I hope you are feeling better. You look fab. Miss and love you both. - KaeLynn
Hi Doug,
This is Scott Zimmerman, missionary in the Andes Mission, 1964-1966, and future missionary in the Lima Peru East Mission. My wife and I enter the Provo MTC on July 14, 2008.
Story about the smell in Chimbote. I was traveling the mission with President Nicolaysen, looking for cities to open for missionary work. We drove into Chimbote. We got out of the car, and the stench was so bad, President Nicolaysen told us to immediately get back into the car. He then said, "Chimbote will be the last city on earth to get the gospel!" True story. But O how wrong he was!
I hope to see you when we arrive in Peru.
